what is healing?
The word “healing” derives from the old English word “hælan”, which means to cure, or make whole.
As a teenager I had much to heal - obesity, high cholesterol, depression, and physical pain. I did so with plants, herbs, and spirituality.
Interestingly though, while being free from these issues and feeling fairly healthy and strong- I still work with herbs, yoga and ceremony. Why? If there’s nothing wrong, sick, or needing to be fixed, why do I still work with medicine?
What does it mean to be whole? To be cured? Should a person with a terminal disease stop praying, stop working with plants, stop doing things that help them feel whole - even if they can’t be cured?
Healing goes beyond turning something negative into positive. I believe healing is about saying yes to life. Extracting medicine in the form of wisdom from the poisons of ignorance.
If I feel great or shitty, I thank the sun and the food that sustains me and thank god for my life. If I feel confused and lonely or blissful and connected to all life - I still practice yoga.
A bird doesn’t only sing when it has food, it sings and follows it's nature.
Healing is about connecting to our nature. Remembering our wholeness- before society and trauma’s picked us apart.
Healing is part of our nature.
